ABOUT THE DESIGN
Archimedes was a gifted academic philosopher and student of geometry. In the background we see an Archimedean spiral. It is the locus of points corresponding to the locations over time of a point moving away from a fixed point with a constant speed along a line that rotates with constant angular velocity. He also wrote an extensive proof on both the sphere and the cylinder (shown here in his hands).
